Fostering is a rewarding experience that allows individuals and families to make a direct and positive impact on the lives of dogs and cats in need. It provides a bridge between a difficult past and a hopeful future, allowing dogs & cats to regain trust, build confidence, and ultimately find a loving forever home.
Fostering a dog or cat through our rescue involves providing temporary care, shelter, and love to a pet in need. Fostering is a critical step in the process of rehabilitating and preparing the pets for adoption into permanent homes. Here's a breakdown of what fostering a dog or cat for Pep's Pals Rescue entails:
Foster families open their homes to cats and/or dogs that are either rescued from shelters, abusive situations, or surrendered by previous owners. This temporary living arrangement helps the pet transition from a potentially stressful or challenging environment to a nurturing and supportive one.
Foster families are responsible for the day-to-day care of the pet. This includes providing food, water, shelter, and regular exercise. Basic grooming is also one of the responsibilities. ALL APPROVED EXPENSES AND NECESSARY SUPPLIES ARE COVERED BY THE RESCUE!
Fostering involves helping the dog / cat adapt to a home environment. This includes allowing them to decompress in a quiet environment for at least a week followed by socializing them with people, children, and other animals. Foster families play a crucial role in basic training, helping the pet develop good behavior and manners.
Most dogs and cats in foster care require regular vetting and sometimes additional medical attention. This may involve administering medications & monthly preventatives, taking them to veterinary appointments, and monitoring their health and well-being.
Foster families are responsible for providing us with valuable insights into the dog's or cat's personality, behavior, and compatibility with different living situations. This information is crucial for finding the right furever home for them.
The ultimate goal of fostering is to prepare the pet for a successful adoption. This involves not only meeting their physical needs, but also addressing any behavioral issues, ensuring they are fully vetted according to the rescue's requirements, and helping them become comfortable and well-adjusted.
Fostering dogs or cats through Pep's Pals Rescue is free for the foster family. We cover the costs associated with the pet's medical expenses, including vaccinations, spaying/neutering, monthly preventatives, microchip, deworming, and any other necessary veterinary care. Additionally, we will provide food, supplies, and cover grooming costs if absolutely necessary to be professionally groomed. All expenses have to be approved by the rescue in order to be covered!
Donate to help us provide life-saving care and put an end to the overpopulation through spaying/neutering.
Also, please consider fostering for us as we can't save lives without fosters!
